The Government of India made BIS certification for toys compulsory from January 2021 to protect children from unsafe materials, toxic chemicals, and choking hazards. According to the Quality Control Order (QCO) issued by BIS, all toys must conform to Indian Standard IS 9873 (Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 9) and IS 15644.
